CURRENT EXHIBITION

Fish Quan

September 14 – October 11 2026

Fish Quan is a Malaysian photographer whose journey began with portrait photography.

Over the years, her approach has gradually shifted from pursuing technical perfection to something quieter and more instinctive – feeling.

Drawn to light, human presence and the relationship between people and their surroundings, she finds inspiration in moments that are often overlooked: a passing crowd, shifting shadows, fleeting encounters, and the stillness that remains when a city slows down.

For Fish, photography is more than a way of documenting what she sees. It is a way of experiencing the world.

She believes a photograph does not always need to provide an answer.

Sometimes, it simply needs to invite the viewer to pause, look a little longer, and discover a feeling of their own.

“When you learn to see, you naturally photograph.

When you learn to feel, your photographs begin to speak.”

Jason Min

The Matches

July – September

Jason Min, known artistically as The Matches, is a Peranakan artist from Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Malaysia.

At the heart of his artistic universe lies the “Matchstick Man” a simple yet powerful symbol that represents the essence of human life. Through minimal lines and playful forms, he captures emotions, memories, and relationships that resonate across cultures.

In Jason’s philosophy, a matchstick symbolizes the fragile yet meaningful nature of life. Though small and humble, a single match has the power to ignite light, warmth, and transformation.

This metaphor reflects his belief that every individual, no matter how ordinary they may seem, carries the potential to illuminate the world.

Deeply inspired by family bonds, everyday moments, and the multicultural spirit of Malaysia, his works celebrate the quiet beauty found in ordinary life. His art often portrays warmth between generations,
childhood innocence, and the subtle poetry of daily experiences.

A significant aspect of his practice is the reinterpretation Peranakan (Baba-Nyonya) culture.By integrating vibrant colours, intricate patterns, and symbolic motifs of Peranakan heritage, Jason transforms traditional cultural elements into contemporary visual narratives. In doing so, he preserves cultural memory while allowing it to evolve within a modern artistic language.

Working across diverse mediums including oil painting, watercolour, acrylic, Chinese ink painting, sculpture, eggshell painting, creative calligraphy, recycled-material media. Jason explores art as both expression and storytelling.

His artistic style embraces freedom, experimentation, and unconventional presentation, often merging traditional cultural themes with playful imagination.

Through the world of The Matches, Jason Min reminds us that even the smallest spark can illuminate the deepest corners of human experience.
